Megan-Brette Hamilton worked as a speech-language pathologist in the New York City public school system for ten years. She is passionate about working with youth, as an SLP, tutor, or mentor. Currently, Ms. Hamilton is a second year doctoral student at the University of Illinois in the department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, working closely with Dr. Laura DeThorne and Dr. Julie Hengst. Her particular research interests focus on the influence of language processing variability and culture on communication interactions, particularly as they impact African American youth in schools. Ms. Hamilton has recently worked on a Public Engagement grant focusing on school readiness and has participated in a Focal Point grant received through the Graduate College, focusing on communicative competence and technology. In her spare time, Megan-Brette enjoys volunteering with youth, hosting, experiencing new languages and cultures through travel, and diligently tries to maintain her gymnastics, piano, and French skills.
